Day trip: Tyndrum to Oban and Appin

Before starting the WHW we'd planned a day out to Oban to allow us time to relax and mooch. We travelled to Oban on the West Highland Railway.

We were impressed by The Shed scheme, a drop-in workshop resourced with work benches, hand tools and machinery, a skill-sharing initiative accessible to anybody who had a project to build. Way to go Oban.

We found however that we were quite invigorated by our adventures on the WHW and after we'd taken in the views from McCaig’s Tower our thoughts fell to ...more walking.

We caught a bus to Appin and walked around the other-worldly salt marsh and mudflats that surround Castle Stalker.

We've decided we'll definitely return to Oban for a day's boat trip and a repeat of the fantastic meal that we had at the Oban Fish and Chip shop on George St; sorry no pics, we were much too enthralled by our meal of chowder, popcorn rock lobster and cracked black pepper squid.
